At the beginning of March, one of the most important agricultural exhibitions in Mexico took place, Agrobaja 2023, a national and international agribusiness platform that is held every year in the city of Mexicali (Mexico). It was not until 2000 that the Patronato de Agrobaja, a civil association formed by local entrepreneurs interested in the agro-cultural development of their region, was created.
The aim of the fair was to form relationships with both public and private organisations, and it was in 2001 that the first Expo Agrobaja was held, which served as a showcase for producers, exporters and service providers in the sector. Today, it has positioned itself as one of the most important events, showcasing products and services related to agriculture, livestock, fishing, aquaculture and technological innovations.
More than 53,000 visitors and over 684 exhibitors from all over the world attended the exhibition on 2, 3 and 4 March, according to the organisers.
Our colleagues from CapGen Seeds in Mexico took the opportunity to meet with friends and professionals from the sector.
They also presented our most outstanding products in the Mexican market.
The most sought-after varieties and the ones that created the most expectation were the following:
In hot peppers in the serrano typology, the Platinum and Silver varieties were used. The former is a vigorous plant variety that adapts very well to different areas and sowing seasons. It is very productive, its fruits are very spicy and measure 13 to 15 cm. On the other hand, we have the Plata variety, which differs from Platino in its smaller fruits, from 9 to 11 cm in length and in its thicker flesh. It has an exceptional spicy taste and is considered one of the leading varieties in the Mexican market.
In tomato, the varieties that stood out were the blunt tomato, Samson and Vibranio. The first one is characterised for being a plant with a strong root system and for having short internodes, its fruits are oval with a large calibre. Its production is constant and uniform during the whole cycle. The Vibranio variety, on the other hand, has a vigorous plant with an open habit, which stands out for its high percentage of XL fruits and the heaviness of its fruits.
